THE RULES of TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER

A "dealer button" is moved one seat clockwise after each round. The person to the immediate left of the button is the "small blind", the next person to the left is the "big blind". The blinds are an ante which only two people post per hand.

Each player is dealt two "hole" cards.

A round of betting starts with the person left of the big blind. Players may either fold, call, or raise. The round of betting is over when each person wishing to continue with their hand has put in the same amount of money. Usually the betting is capped at a maximum of four raises.

Three community cards are put on the table. This is called "the flop". Community cards are used in combination with a player's hole cards to make their best possible 5-card hand. Another round of betting follows.

Another community card is turned over. This is called "the turn". Another round of betting follows.

The final community card, called "the river", is dealt. After a final round of betting, players turn over their hole cards (called "showdown") and the best 5-card hand wins,

Many times, all players except for one have folded before showdown, and that player wins the pot without having to show their cards.
